Many creators are realising that they can secure some impressive brand deals with businesses when they’re getting a lot of reach, but historically the Ad Revenue for short-form content has always been contextually low.
Shorts and Ad Revenue
Ad revenue should always be viewed as the “cherry on top of the cake” in terms of earning potential on platforms like YouTube when you have grown a big audience. But one great thing about Ad revenue is that it can be consistent, and gets paid automatically into your account at the end of each month. It can feel like a second salary.
After the Shorts fund, creators could earn revenue on their Shorts content just like long-form videos. But whereas long form videos can make anywhere between £1 and £80 per 1,000 views, Shorts offered just a fraction of that at around £0.01 to £0.03 per 1,000 views.
Things have improved, with many creators now earning between £0.11 and £0.15 per 1,000 views. Although it’s still a fraction of long form content earnings, it’s balanced out by the amount of views that Shorts can get, which can be 10-20x more on average.
